Bubu Awards is a national scale competition, in the field of Website Design and Development. The annual website competition is claimed to be celebrated and has become an event that is highly anticipated by the Indonesian IT (Information Technology) community. The first BuBu Awards V.01 was a success, it was conducted in 2001, manages to assemble 200 contestants on the competition and supported by International judges such as: Hilman Curtis, Ray Pagkalinawan, dan Manuel Clement. It was then followed by more successions of Bubu Awards in the later of years.
Bubu Awards V.06, notably the grandest from previous ones, is gathering supports from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Republic Indonesia, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic Indonesia, and Ministry of Research and Technology of Republic Indonesia.
The event it self speaks out “The Rise of Digital Era” theme based on the Indonesia’s exciting rising level of attention, towards marketing as well as advertising through online and digital media. For all intents and purposes, Bubu Awards V.06 is an event celebration of marking and proclaiming the take-off of Indonesia to the Digital Era.
A new additional element to our event this year, we incorporate Campus Seminars Road Show and a Digital Marketing Conference, with speakers from the hottest digital media agency in the US, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and Yahoo! Southeast Asia into our chain of activities .
As for competitions, we have a Digital Marketing Competition that is divided into two categories: student and general (individual/group), where the winner of the general category will get the experience of being involved in the execution of their winning concept by bubu.com. We are also supplemented a Tourism Blog Writing Competition in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic Indonesia, subjecting “Komodo Island as the best eco-tourism destination” as the theme. Following our previous Bubu Awards V.05, we are still presenting the Corporate Category Awards. Other awards that will be presented in Bubu Awards V.06 are Indonesia Social Media Award, Digital Campaign Award, Most Influential Blogger Award and Celebrities and Musicians Web Award. We are inviting prominent individuals from both International and Indonesia to judge in this much awaited, prestigious event.
A major step up from the first event, BUBU AWARDS V.02 received the full support and endorsement by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia. BUBU AWARDS V02 also increased the scope of the event to include not just the Individual participants, but also inviting corporate. The organizers invited website owning companies, from all sort of industries, to compete in the various categories such as commerce, government, education, e-commerce, and news & entertainment. In addition, the Board of Judges has also been expanded, to include more International and local prominent figures from media, IT, and business sectors. The involvement of Prasetio Utomo & Co as the official tabulator in BUBU AWARDS V.02 visibly enhances the credibility of the scores tabulation process.
Bubu Awards V.02 was also invited to present the corporate category winners with another award from the Indonesian Government in the annual Information, Communications and Technology Awards (ICT awards 2002) which was supported by Ministry of Communication and Information. At this event, Ministry of Communication and Informatics on behalf of the Government presented the Bubu Awards 2002 Corporate category winners with the ICT awards in the presence of Indonesia’s President Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri, Mr. Syamsul Mu’arif (Minister of Communication and Informatics), Mr. Hatta Rajasa (Minister of Research and Technology) and other VIP guests which included leaders of leading corporations and Ambassadors.
Bubu Awards V03, strengthen the event’s presence in the design world and not just on the web, Bubu Internet (the organizer) is partnering with Media Network Indonesia (MNI, subsidiary of MRA group) to present Adikarya Desain Indonesia 2003 (Indonesia Outstanding Design Awards). Thus, the event has widened its scope by making this competition to also include Graphic Design/Print as one of the category being contended. There was additional category of web design competition; category of special artist where all artists can compete their official website. In the hand of credible Web design and technology industry national and international judges such as Andries Odendaal (New Media Developer, wired Frame) South Africa, Carole Guevin (Chief Imagineer/founder & editor, Pixeltable/netdiver) Canada, Chad Kassirer (Founder of What? Design) USA, David Carson (Presiden Director of David Carson Design) USA, Dennis Mendiola (CEO of the Chikka and Next Century Partners) Philippines, Dave Konchanski (Musician/Writer and Producer) USA, Drew Europeo (co-founder of Halfproject and Philweavers) Philippines, Gio Bacareza (Vice President of Ajonet Holdings, Inc.) Philippines, Laurence Ng (Publisher and founder of IdN design Magazine) Hong Kong, Michael Schmidt & Toke Nygaard (Owner of Cuban Council and founder K10k) USA, Manuel Clement (MANO1.com and Microsoft Seattle) USA. Betti Alisjahbana (President Director, IBM Indonesia), Budiono Darsono (Chief Editor, Detik.com), David Burke (CEO PT Indonesia Media Technologies), Ian McDonough (Group Account MTV Indonesia), JB Kristiadi (Sekretaris Menteri Komunikasi dan Informasi), Ipang Wahid (Televisi Commercial Director 25 Frames), Jos Luhukay (President Director Lippo Bank), Ninok Leksono (Chief-Editor Kompas Cyber Media), and many more. In order to keep the grading process accountability, all the grades from all categories were tabulated by Independent Tabulator Ernst and Young. The awarding nights of the competitions also broadcast by television ANTEVE.
On our 4th year, Bubu Internet has been appointed to represent the World Summit Award (http://www.wsis-award.org) on a national scale. The winners of our Bubu Awards will have the chance to participate in the World Summit Awards, which will take place in Tunisia, in November 2005. World Summit Awards (based in Geneva) is a global contest for selecting and promoting the World’s best e-contents and applications. This prestigious event is being supported by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), UNESCO, International Telecommunication Union, United Nations Information and Communication Technologies Task Force and Ministry of Industry & Commerce Kingdom of Bahrian.
Bubu Awards V.04 theme was “Pariwisata Indonesia” (Indonesian Tourism), in the effort to boost the tourism industry in Indonesia. Despite of the fact that Indonesia had the biggest misfortune of being hit hard by the tsunami and earthquake in the past previous months, there are potential tourist destinations that are worth to be discovered and exposed to the world travelers. We are proud enough to say that Bali up to present time is claimed as the most favorite tourist destination (Award was given by the TIME magazine). We hoped by creating tourism websites, we would build awareness and trigger the interest of both domestic and international tourist to discover more about the beauty of Indonesia and its unique cultural experience. After the award, our winner’s website was chosen to officially represent the various exciting tourist spots in Indonesia.
For Bubu Awards V.05, the theme was “Museum Indonesia” (Indonesian Museum), in the effort to promote Indonesian Museum to become one of the attractive tourism object for people to visit and building up society’s awareness of Museum as a public area as well as society cultural center. For Corporate Category we segregated the web entries into following categories of Best Content Award, Best Design Award, Best Technology Award and Best Usability Award. We also differentiated the Corporate Category according to their nature of business as follows: Banking & Finance Award, Commerce & Consumer Award, Organization & Community Award, Government Award, News & Entertainment Award, Best Corporate of The Year Award and Web Celebrities Award. For Individual Category there were Individual Award (Museum), 3G Wap Award and Dunia 3G Themes Award. We had Student Expression Award for the student category.
